Welcome and thank you for subscribing to the BEE Newsletter.

Whether you are currently bereaved or looking to support someone else who is grieving, we sincerely hope you are able to find something useful in this e-mail. Losing a loved one through death can be one of the most challenging experiences within our lifetime. One of the fundamental ways to support ourselves and each other throughout bereavement is to learn more about what grief is, how it can affect us and what sort of resources are available within the community. It is the primary goal of the Joseph T. Quinlan Bereavement Center to serve as an on-going support, resource and advocate for the bereaved community and to remind you that you do not have to walk this road alone.

This bi-monthly e-mail collective allows us to continuously update community members and professionals regarding upcoming events and on-going developments within the Joseph T. Quinlan Bereavement Center and Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice. Each newsletter will also offer an introduction to a Grief Guidance Resource and highlight local community resources and events which may benefit our bereaved community.

This newsletter is part of our Bereavement Awareness and Support Community (BAASC) initiative. The BAASC initiative is designed to promote a community-wide discussion surrounding the topic of grief and to offer our agency's specialized experience and knowledge surrounding hospice, anticipatory grief and bereavement to community members and professionals.

Our Bereavement Awareness and Support Community (BAASC) initiative is well underway and we have been making significant strides in connecting with local professionals and community members through active outreach and community engagement events. Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice and the Joseph T. Quinlan Bereavement Center are proud to be a part of such a diverse and active community. Local organizations and community members play a pivotal role in our agency's on-going efforts, not only through generous and gracious financial contributions and donations, but also through active collaboration and participation. Our community volunteers and other local organizations are a fundamental resource in supporting our hospice families and local bereaved community through their dedication and hands-on support.

Pass It Along, a local non-profit organization which is dedicated to providing service-learning and self-discovery to teenagers through volunteerism, community engagement and workshops, partipates in an annual Pass It Along Day during which hundreds of volunteers band together to serve local non-profit and community agencies and organizations. We are humbled to have been selected as one of this years agencies to be supported during this service event. Pass It Along volunteers will be coming to our bereavement center to complete a variety of tasks from working in our memorial butterfly garden to other forms maintenence, upkeep and organization.

We are equally as thrilled to have been asked to participate in SAGE production's Social Work Video collection. SAGE is a publication and resource development company dedicated to enhancing educational and professional communities through innovative resources. The Social Work Video Collection will offer insight to skills, concepts and a variety of service settings within the Social Work Profession and will made available to local educational institutions. We would also like to thank those in our BAASC community who came to participate and offer themsevles and their story to this project.

There is nothing more meaningful than to work together as a community to educate and support one another and we look forward to continuing to work with local community members and professionals to impact our world. We sincerely hope you will allow us to journey along side you in your grief and that you will join our BAASC network.
